Marlow Town Council is committed to protecting and improving the environment and to ensuring that the town enhances its environmental performance over time. This remit lies with the Environment and Wellbeing Committee, which took over responsibility for “green” issues from the former Planning, Environment and Transportation Committee (PET) in 2021.
To encourage, inspire and support small positive behaviour changes in us all, so collectively our little efforts add up to make a big difference to our impact on climate change.
We aim to influence positive, realistic, and accessible behaviour change within Marlow Town Council, Marlow, and our residents. Because we believe in a friendlier and kinder Marlow where residents, local nature and the planet thrive harmoniously. However only by partnering with local green groups and activating residents can we create the change we all want to see.
Smartphone and Children Statement
By the age of 12, a staggering 97% of children in the UK own a smartphone. (Ofcom) 29% of secondary school pupils reported mobile phones being used without permission in most of their lessons. (The UK National Behaviour Survey 2021-2022) The average UK 12-year-old now spends 29 hours a week – equivalent to a part- time job – on their smartphone. New research shows the younger a child receives their first smartphone the worse their mental health. (Click on the heading to read the full statement)
Movable Vehicle Activated Signs (MVAS)
A moveable vehicle activation sign (MVAS) serves as a visual reminder to drivers to adhere to the speed limit and helps to deter reckless driving behaviour. By proactively addressing this issue, we can create a safer environment for all residents and promote responsible driving habits within our community.
To ensure safety and promote active travel, MTC has four Moveable Vehicle Activated Signs (MVAS).
These signs encourage drivers to slow down, creating safer places for active travel.
