Our Vision – Social

Our Vision > Social

(Also see Environment , Economic)

Culture

We aim to enhance the cultural offerings in the town and are considering a number of opportunities including:

  • Exploring the idea of a Music/Literary/Comedy Festival
  • Encouraging and promoting the use of our library

Communications

Our objective is to promote greater public awareness of Council activities, ensuring we are approachable and responsive. Activities include:

  • Liaising with other town groups and associations, with Councillor representation on many local organisations
  • Making the Town Council website a first-class user experience
  • Publishing Town Council news and streaming public meetings via social media
  • Being available to answer residents’ issues
  • Maintaining communications via our magazine, The Marlovian and via print, broadcast and social media

Community and safety

We aim to support our diverse community so that every person can make a positive and important contribution to the community. We will ensure all residents, irrespective of race, gender, creed or culture, receive fair and just treatment.

We work hard to keep Marlow a clean, safe and low-crime environment where residents, visitors and businesses can work and live safely and without fear. Via our annual Celebrate event, we acknowledge and reward members of the community who have made significant contributions to the quality and safety of our daily lives.

  • Maintaining a good working relationship with the police
  • Managing security measures in Gossmore and Seymour parks and pledging to look after Higginson Park
  • Encouraging and liaising with Neighbourhood Watch schemes

Sports and health

Our objective is to create a culture of wellbeing in Marlow, encouraging sports, fitness and a healthy lifestyle. This includes:

  • Supporting, promoting and helping to improve all the current sports facilities and clubs in the town
  • Working with Buckinghamshire Council to increase the number of bicycle racks in the town to support cyclists
  • Attracting restaurants and cafes offering a wide range of eating options
  • Promoting the support of our weekly and monthly food markets and encouraging local food producers
  • Promoting walking and ensuring pedestrian safety, including ensuring safe use of alleyways around the town
