Speed monitoring on Wiltshire Road, Marlow finds no evidence of consistent high speeds

New data collected by Marlow Town Council on Wiltshire Road has found no evidence of consistently high vehicle speeds that would currently justify traffic-calming measures.

The Council installed two Mobile Vehicle Activated Speed (MVAS) cameras on Wiltshire Road, monitoring traffic travelling in both directions. The purpose of the exercise was to establish whether there was sufficient evidence of speeding to present to Buckinghamshire Council in support of potential traffic-calming measures.

The data has now been reviewed and summarised. In both directions, the overwhelming majority of vehicles were travelling within the existing 30mph speed limit.

The camera monitoring vehicles travelling down Wiltshire Road recorded 78,378 vehicles between 7 May and 17 July 2026. The maximum recorded speed was 45mph, recorded at 12.30am on 16 May. On weekdays, between 0.7% and 0.9% of vehicles exceeded 30mph. The average speed among vehicles exceeding the limit was between 32.7mph and 33mph. At weekends, between 1.1% and 1.2% of vehicles exceeded 30mph. The average speed among those exceeding the limit was between 32.8mph and 33mph.

The camera monitoring vehicles travelling up Wiltshire Road recorded 62,836 vehicles between 26 November 2025 and 8 February 2026. The maximum recorded speed was 45mph, recorded at 11.30am on 29 January. On weekdays, between 0.8% and 1.3% of vehicles exceeded 30mph. The average speed among vehicles exceeding the limit was between 32.6mph and 32.8mph. At weekends, between 0.8% and 1.2% of vehicles exceeded 30mph. The average speed among those exceeding the limit was between 32.8mph and 32.9mph.

The cameras recorded vehicle numbers and speeds but did not identify individual vehicles or log registration numbers.

The results do not demonstrate a pattern of consistently high speeds on Wiltshire Road which has a 30mph speed limit.
