Outgoing Mayor raises £1,800 by walking every day for charity

As her year in office comes to a close, the outgoing Mayor, Muryel Boulay,  undertook a simple but meaningful challenge, to walk every day during her final month in office to raise money for two good causes, Wild Marlow and Brighter Futures Together.

What began as a fundraising initiative quickly became something much more personal and rewarding. Over the course of the month, residents, friends, community groups and supporters joined the Mayor on her daily walks, sharing conversation, companionship and laughter along the way.

Together, the challenge raised an impressive £1,800 for the Mayor’s chosen good causes.

Reflecting on the experience, Cllr Boulay said:

“The walking itself was wonderful, but the best part by far was spending time with the people who joined me. The conversations we shared and the connections we made, made every step worthwhile.

I hope this challenge shows that small things really can make a big difference. Walking is not only good for us physically, but mentally too, and being outdoors with others is such a positive thing for wellbeing.”

The initiative highlighted the importance of community spirit, staying active, and taking time to connect with others all while supporting local charitable causes.

The Mayor thanked everyone who walked alongside her, donated, or offered encouragement throughout the month, adding that the support received had been “truly heartwarming.”
