Marlow Town Council is delighted to announce that celebrated chef Atul Kochhar will join the town’s festive celebrations this November to officially switch on Marlow’s Christmas lights, marking the start of the festive season.
The much-loved annual event will bring residents, families and visitors together in the heart of Marlow for an evening of sparkling lights and a touch of winter magic.
“The Christmas Lights Switch On is an important date in Marlow’s calendar and takes considerable support to bring together” said Mayor Jenny Simnett. “ We are very grateful to our sponsors for their generous contributions, which help make the event possible, and to Atul for joining us for the event. Events like this are a great opportunity to support our local businesses and celebrate all that makes Marlow such a special place.”
Atul Kochhar is one of the UK’s best-known chefs, renowned for his innovative approach to Indian cuisine. Earning his first Michelin star in 2001, Atul then opened his own restaurant in London’s Mayfair, in 2002, which earned him a second Michelin star in 2007. Since then, the chef has grown his restaurant portfolio, opening several award-winning venues across the South of the UK including Sindhu and Vaasu in Marlow. His visit promises to add a special touch to this year’s celebrations as Marlow prepares to welcome the festive season in style.
“It’s a pleasure to have been invited to switch on Marlow’s Christmas lights this year. I’m looking forward to joining the crowd on the High Street and being part of the occasion as the town lights up for Christmas. With snow machines adding to the winter atmosphere, it sounds like a lovely way to begin the festive season!” said Atul Kochhar.
The event will begin at 6.00pm on Thursday 19 November, with the official Christmas Lights Switch On taking place at 6.30pm. The celebrations will centre on Marlow High Street, with the familiar double-decker bus stationed at the junction of the High Street and Institute Road.
The High Street will be closed and parking suspended from 3.30pm to 8.00pm.
